| 2Na + 2C2H5OH = 2C2H5ONa + H2 – substitutions, hydrogen is evolved;
Let’s make the calculations:
M (Na) = 22.9 g / mol;
M (C2H5OH) = 46 g / mol.
Let’s determine the amount of starting substances:
Y (Na) = m / M = 4.6 / 22.9 = 0.2 mol (deficient substance);
Y (C2H5OH) = m / M = 30/46 = 0.6 mol (substance in excess).
The calculation is carried out taking into account the substance in the deficiency.
Proportion:
0.2 mol (Na) – X mol (H2);
-2 mol -1 mol hence, X mol (H2) = 0.2 * 1/2 = 0.1 mol.
We find the volume of H2:
V (H2) = 0.1 * 22.4 = 2.24 L
Answer: 2.24 liters of hydrogen was obtained.
